On Saturday, Nov. 2, Oregon high school dance teams began the first of their two competitive seasons. Performing stylized routines, teams participated at competitions hosted by David Douglas, Gladstone and Putnam high schools.
Dance teams have the opportunity to qualify their fall routines for the 2019 Dance Drill Coaches Association of Oregon (DDCA) Category Championships by placing first or second and earning an average score of 34 points.
During the fall competition season, dance teams are judge in five subcaptions: Technique/Control, Precision, Choreography, Complexity, and Projection. Each subcaption is worth 10 points. The total points from each of the three judges are averaged together to determine a team’s final score and placement.
