OREGON JUNIOR DANCE TEAMANNOUNCEMENTS & INFORMATION

junior3.jpg

Oregon Junior Dance Teams - Middle School, Club, and JV High School Teams - are all welcome to become part of the Dance and Drill Coaches Association.  Junior Teams compete at various events throughout Oregon.  Many events are catered uniquely to Junior Teams and not necessarily sanctioned by the DDCA.   In some cases, Junior Teams can choose to attend sanctioned DDCA High School events and compete in the categories offered specifically for Junior Teams (some restrictions may apply).  Each DDCA sanctioned competition and each Junior Dance Team competition are usually organized by individual event directors, and not directly by the DDCA, so reach out to various competitions to learn about Junior Team availability and processes.

Junior Team events are scheduled each year by event coordinators and directors, usually from January - April.  The Junior Dance Team Championships (OJDTC) is a culminating event for Junior Teams.  OJDTC and Junior Team competitions are often not sanctioned by the DDCA, so the event structure and categories may be slightly different from traditional DDCA events.  This includes performance judges, which are not required or guaranteed to be certified by the DDCA Judges Affiliation, and many of these competitions may not have  or require a technical judge.

Note:  If you are part of a Junior Team program and your team has a membership with the DDCA, please communicate with the DDCA Board the information you would like to see on this page.  We will update the information as we receive it, and want this page to be a useful resource for your teams.

OREGON JUNIOR DANCE TEAM RESOURCES

The linked information here will be updated as information is provided.  As these events are not DDCA sanctioned, please reach out directly to the event coordinator for more information about what to expect at the event.   You can also reach out to the DDCA Board Representative working as the DDCA Junior Team liaison.

If you are a coach of a current team under the "Junior Dance Team" umbrella (Middle School, Club, JV, etc.), then you are welcome to join the Junior Team Band Page.  It is a way to connect with other programs and coaches and stay updated.

OREGON JUNIOR DANCE TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2024-2025 season marks the 20th year of the OJDTC that Debbie Kishpaugh co-founded with her sister Sherry Carlson Summerville.

The following information for OJDTC is based on past events and subject to change.  Divisions are set and organized each year based on event entries.

Club teams are now going by the average grade:

  • Minis will not exceed a 3rd grade average.  3.49 grade.

  • Elementary will not exceed a 6th grade average.  6.49 grade.

  • Juniors will not exceed a 9th grade average.   9.49 grade.

The rounds traditionally will be set upon receiving entries. OJDTC is generally a two round event, with each team performing a routine one time.  There is no limit on the number of teams a school or club may enter; however, there are strict guidelines to entering the correct age bracket.  A team will be disqualified for having an over-age dancer in their group.  Performance Judges may or may not be DDCA certified, but are qualified to judge the event.

Proceeds from the Oregon Junior Dance Team Championships are donated to the DDCA Scholarship Fund.  Since 2004, OJDTC has donated more than $150,000 to the DDCA Scholarship fund.  Scholarship awardees are encouraged to volunteer at the OJDTC.  When possible, All State Team members are also invited to perform at the event.
